![]() ![]() The -mis tense was one of the things I complained to my mother about. Every time I heard -mis, I felt caught out. ![]() "The dog scared-mis you." "You told-mis your parents that if Aunt Hulya came to America, she could live in your garage." When you heard -mis, you knew that you had been invoked in your absence - not just you but your hypocrisy, cowardice, and lack of generosity. "You complained-mis to your mother," Dilek would tell me in her quiet, precise voice. It could be translated as "it seems" or "I heard" or "apparently." I associated it with Dilek, my cousin on my father's side - tiny, skinny, dark-complexioned Dilek, who was my age but so much smaller. The suffix -mis had not exact English equivalent. Having said that, this book series is amazing, and I'm sure that anyone, even adults, would enjoy it, but you would have to bare in mind that it is written from the perspective of a 16 year old, not an adult! Although this is classed as a YA book series, I would say that they might appeal more to younger YA readers, as it is "lighter" (that's the only word I could think of, I know it doesn't really explain much/make sense, sorry), than some people, especially adults, might have expected. I have read other reviews of this series/ the first book in the series, and noticed that some people are saying that they were aimed at a younger age than they expected.
